Are Pistachios Keto?

In a keto diet, you are restricted from consuming carbs. The carb intake should always be low, so in theory, you go into ketosis. So foods that are high, even moderate in carbs, are restricted in the keto diet.
Pistachios fall in that list of restricted foods since they contain high amount of net carbs per 100g.

Pistachios are high in net carbs, containing 16.57g per 100 g. Besides, they fall in the range of the top 28% of foods as a source of overall carbs.

Even though pistachios have a good amount of fats, they still are high in net carbs, so in summary, the number of net carbs makes pistachios unsuitable for a Keto Diet (2).

One serving size of raw pistachios (28.35 grams) provides:

Calories: 158

Protein: 5.70 grams

Fat: 13 grams

Total carbs: 7.7 grams, all are net carbs

Net Carbs

A standard Keto Diet recommends a net carb consumption limit of 20g-30g per day (for 2000 calorie diet).

Pistachios have 5g of net carbs per serving, so too much consumption can stop ketosis.

Summary

Pistachios are not Keto-friendly due to their net carbs content. As an alternative, try a handful of macadamia or pecan nuts, which suit better keto recommendations.
