Papaya contains a low level of carbs, 10.82g per 100g, of which 9.12g are net carbs.
A few studies have been done on the Glycemic Index (GI) of papayas, and most of them demonstrate a medium GI value.

According to the International tables of glycemic index and glycemic load values, raw papaya has a low GI of 38, and raw papaya puree has a GI of 42 (1).

According to one study examining the GI values of common Malaysian fruits, papaya has a GI of 58±6 (2). Another study shows that papaya, native to the tropics, has a glycemic index equal to 55 (3).

So, considering the most reliable and available data, we choose 38 as the average glycemic index of papaya.
