Hummus Glycemic Index (GI) - Is It High or Low?

According to the International Tables of Glycemic Index, hummus's glycemic index (GI) is low, equaling to 6 (1).

Hummus's main ingredients are chickpeas, sesame paste, tahini, garlic, and olive oil. These products have low to moderate glycemic indexes, making hummus low-GI food. Hummus is also a good source of fiber and protein.

These properties of hummus may positively influence blood sugar control in people with diabetes (2).
